Our Story
In 2012, a random group of guys formed a men's indoor volleyball team called the Volley Llamas. Our common thread was the love of volleyball.
As our families grew throughout the years, so did our friendships with each other's families. The camaraderie led to holiday parties, backyard volleyball gatherings, and family outings. Later, we transitioned to playing beach volleyball.
To offset our beach league fees, we volunteered to break down the beach courts in Virginia Beach for multiple tournaments. Each tournament, we had 30 to 50 courts to take down in the summer heat. We had to haul a 6-foot ladder through the sand to climb up and remove the nets from the posts. Then, we had to pull up all the 4"x6" posts out of the sand — it took 2 of us to "bear hug" and yank each post free.
One day, Ken — a buddy of mine I've known since 3rd grade — was trying to pull up a post with another volleyball player when he slipped. The post gifted him with a 2-inch splinter in the palm of his hand.
On the drive home, I thought: there must be a better and easier way — one that didn't require heavy lifting, ladders, or injuries.
So, I invented the SandClaw.
